Julien came to Rescue with a large intake in the Pacific Northwest. We don't know his exact age, but we estimate to be 3-5 years old.
When he came to rescue it was very obvious that he was not used to being walked on a leash. Since then his leash skills have improved remarkably. His house training has also improved. He has not had any accidents in weeks. He has learned to let his foster know when he needs to go outside. He takes his time to find just the right spot to relieve himself. As for walking, walks are fun time and he's completely amazed by birds.
Notes from his foster:
Sit/Stay: He is slowly working on this. He knows sit but can be willful and refuse.
Recall: He absolutely knows his name and will respond to it every time it is in connection with treat or toy or ball. He will knowingly, intentionally, and willfully ignore you if you call him name and he does not want to come where you are directing.
Personality: He is a LOVE BUG who has clearly been starved of attention. For the first 2-3 days he was all over me - crawling up me, in my face, etc - he could not get enough love and snuggles. He has started to relax and become more comfortable/less needy. He will now come up on the sofa and lay next to me (as opposed to crawling over me and onto my head/face). He is super playful!! He loves to play fetch - he's great at bringing the toy back and dropping it for me to throw again. He's absolutely obsessed with all of my dog's small stuffed toys. In particular, he really likes a stuffed martini glass - so much so that he takes it with him on all of our walks. My neighbors absolutely love seeing him walking around with a martini glass in his mouth at 8am.
Julien is being fostered in the Mid Atlantic. You must live within a two hour drive of the Washington, DC area to be considered for adoption. No exceptions. We require at least two back and forth meetings between the dog and the potential adopter and we do not like to ask our volunteers to drive very far. We do not ship dogs. Electric fences are an absolute no-no.
Julien would be best served by a family who commits to continuing his training by doing obedience classes. Unless the adopter is an experienced trainer, we consider this a requirement for him.
