11/22/2014 - Update Regarding Rescued Cavaliers
November 22, 2014, was a monumental day in the Cavalier world. Not ONE of the Cavaliers up for auction was left behind. With support from all over the world, every Cavalier was saved from a life in a commercial breeding facility. Thank you for supporting this endeavor!
This is the beginning of a wonderful life for the 32 dogs in our care! The Cavaliers will be assessed for veterinary needs, social needs and behavioral needs. Our work has just begun. We will post updates as frequently as we can.
In the meantime, if you can help offset the expenses for veterinary care for the 32 Cavaliers taken into the ACKCS Rescue Trust, it would be greatly appreciated. You may do so on our website: https://cavalierrescuetrust.org/donations-store/store
The Cavaliers have been initially dispersed to Minnesota, Iowa and Arkansas. If you are interested in volunteering to foster or to help in any way, please submit a volunteer application on our website: https://cavalierrescuetrust.org/volunteers12/volunteer-application-2/volunteer-application
We expect some serious veterinary care and social issues that will need to be addressed. This will take time. No dog will be made available for adoption before they are ready. Be patient. We always place the right dog in the right forever home.
Again, thank you for your support!
In response to the recent situation involving Cavaliers being sold at auction, the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rescue Trust, Inc. has set up a special fund (David's Fund) that will be used for purposes other than veterinary care and in extraordinary cases may include purchasing dogs in order to save them from harm. We are in need of funds immediately in order to be ready at a moment’s notice should the need arise. We know it will!
Please donate in the store: https://cavalierrescuetrust.org/donations-store/store
You may also make a donation to David's fund through Paypal:
Send checks payable to ACKCS Rescue Trust, Inc., c/o Steve Wallis, 6000 High Bluff Court, Raleigh, NC 27612.

Glenda Schroeder posted the following after donating to purchase dogs at auction: “This is the reason I did what I did yesterday, he would have done the same if he was here and knew about thosefinal 4 boys and I think of it as a sign as I had no hesitation at all. Miss him.”
He so loved the dogs, his children probably, at times, thought their dad loved the dogs more than them (not the case, but close)! His greatest joy was taking one of the dogs every Saturday and Sunday to a local nursing and assisted living home for visits, a routine he never strayed from unless we were on vacation. Even after he became ill he continued, with the last visit as difficult as it was for him he demanded on going so his daughter, Sara, took him just weeks before he died. He would often say he couldn't go somewhere or do something because he had a set time to do visits each weekend. While I would be off doing dog shows, he was doing his thing with visits with one of the dogs. Whenever we had a litter of puppies he wanted me to go with him and take the entire litter once they had their shots as he knew the residents would love the puppies, which of course they did. We know he is up in heaven playing with everyone’s dogs who have gone to the rainbow bridge and handing out treats to all of them all the time, because that’s what he did at home, his job was to spoil the dogs and he did that very well! He was a man who had a great sense and a purpose of giving back to the community with charitable work and contributions, so he would be happy to know this fund was in his name and will help save his beloved breed and provide them with loving homes they so deserve.
